September: Eight of Wands. Things happen fast. Get organized.

So, I’m experimenting with a card for the month ahead, since I’m planning anyway–why not share the process with all of you?

These cards are from Isabella Rotman’s This Might Hurt Tarot. (The background is an ephemeris from my Metaphysician’s Planner, the one designed by Benebell Wen, which I’ve gone back to, and highly recommend, now that I’m ready for that level of detail!) I pulled the Eight of Wands for September and wrote to myself, “There’s a lot going on and it’s happening fast. Work smarter, not harder.”

This makes perfect sense for me as I begin my fourth year of working on my master’s in divinity (did I know this was going to be a four-year program when I started? No, I wasn’t that organized in 2020!). It makes sense for all students. It makes sense for anyone who got an extension until October on their 2023 taxes. But I also think in the world generally that we will continue to see that there’s a lot going on.

What does that mean behind the scenes? Looking to the bottom of the deck I see the Four of Cups, with a woman meditating under a tree and being offered a cup of coffee. No one, no one, not even YOU, can run run run all the time. You need to support all this activity with down time wherever you can build it in. Two 4s make an 8. That’s math, folks! The calm is how you build the rushing around massively productive activity. It’s really, truly, necessary. That’s why they say, “on your mark, get set, go,” and not just, “go!”
