It’s a habit for many of us to build emotional defenses, like a fortress around our hearts. This habit, though understandable, is not healthy — nor does it accomplish what we intend for it to. Our defenses are like the wands in the Nine of Wands card, standing around us like a cage. They do a good job of hemming us in, but our emotions (King of Cups reversed) are like water — they flow right past the elaborate defenses we constructed so carefully. Rather than try to put up a fence against a flood, learn to swim — or at least tread water! That way you will have freedom of movement, at least…and be able to progress on your path.
