Accidentally pulled three cards–and what an interesting set! In a Rider-Waite deck, I don’t like to pull the 5 or 7 of swords. They always seem to be connected with lies, cheating, and dishonor. But in the Yoga Tarot these cards are rather different. In fact, all three of these cards depict forms of meditation, and have to do with taking time to be alone, looking within, being still. I don’t think you need me to add a lot of words to that message. But do note the roots going down into the earth on the Seven of Swords card (more and more I think that this visualization is key to a good intense meditation) and also, note the intense concentration and focus of the Five of Swords yogi. I guess we’ve recovered from yesterday! I hope you all take some time for meditation today.
It’s also worth noting all the blue, a throat chakra color, in these cards. After meditation, find the courage to speak your truth, whatever it may be.

I have been actually trying to get some information on meditation. Do you have any recommendations?

Wow, lots. I should write a post on meditation sometime soon. But to start with, I would keep it simple. There are lots of instructions that you can find about how to sit and how straight to keep your back and stuff like that (and it does definitely help to keep your back straight, though I have no idea why!). Some people think of meditation as something austere and disciplined, which it can be, but I think it should be something different, something that nourishes, something that you do for you, not something that you have to force yourself to make time for but rather something that you do because your spirit is calling out for it. To me that means finding a place to be comfortable and peaceful, sitting up or lying down or even putting your feet up, a time when you can be uninterrupted for a little bit, and then just being still. Focusing on breathing is one option that helps many people, but I sometimes think just plain stillness is more sustaining. See where that gets you…but I’ll try to write something soon to offer more detailed advice. Good luck! 🙂
